Make a Spiced Tea Blend

This would make a great holiday gift, also!
This would make a great holiday gift, also!

I thought I would show how you could make a beverage blend which incorporates the idea of getting extra Vitamin C in your diet.

Spiced Tea with Vitamin C

1/2 cup fair-trade Irish breakfast tea
1/4 cup rose hips
1/4 cup orange peels
1/4 cup cinnamon
1/8 cup cloves

I grind the cloves and cinnamon in a spice grinder and I use quite a lot of cloves because I really love the taste of cloves. If you like less spice use more cinnamon and less cloves. I use almost equal amounts. You can also add elderberries, sumach berries or any other dried berry that you enjoy. Juniper would be interesting, wouldn’t it?  You could add some pine needles to the blend.

A jar of this blend  would make a lovely holiday gift paired with a tea ball or spoon tea infuser and a pretty collectible tea cup.

If  you want include instructions for brewing the perfect cup of tea:

Place 1 teaspoon of tea blend, per cup of water your teapot holds, in your teapot.
Boil water.  (This is important.  The kettle must whistle, don’t hurry it.)
Pour boiling water over tea blend and put a lid on the pot.
Steep for 4 minutes.  (Note: This is far less time than you would brew an infusion but more time than most people allow a teabag to steep)
Strain tea into cups.
Tea blend can probably be steeped twice if you want to top the pot off.
